PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL ST ALEXIUS
The psychiatric hospital St-Alexius in Grimbergen was expanded with an outpatients’ clinic, a hospital restaurant and a cafeteria. Brick, wood and zinc were used as construction materials to ensure the integration with the existing buildings. The design, however, is contrastingly modern and egg-shaped domes create an inside space with lots of light.The warm materials that were used inside create a sense of homeliness. The glass façade with a brick gallery around it creates an interesting relation between the interior and the exterior space as well as a functional sun screen.
