COMPETITION NEW HOSPITAL
A new merged hospital in Malines will replace the two existing campuses in Malines and Duffel and will be planted in the north of Malines, near the R6 and Liersesteenweg. We opted for a very compact building with a small footprint that is very light and airy thanks to openings in the volume, patios and roof gardens. Improvements in the traffic situation resulted in a complete separation between pedestrians, cyclists and car traffic. Cars only enter the grounds via its periphery and disappear into the car park below ground level immediately.The green environment is being used to an optimal extent and penetrates into the building. Gardens, terraces and patios become therapeutic areas.
The hospital has a grid pattern, which benefits its functionality and flexibility. The concentric properties enhance the atmosphere within the hospital.
