general approach

Everybody in our team values the notion of quality. To us, quality is a verb. We think that it is something that needs to be worked on constantly, based on positive experience. Based on the occasional lesser experience, we have learnt that these should be avoided at all cost in the future. Every partner has introduced procedures and work methods in the course of his career and since then has optimised and enhanced them. This helps guarantee the quality of our work to our principals.
We work with experienced architects and engineers, together with designers who receive extra training in various fields. This enables us to guarantee a high level of quality. We also emphasize open communication in order to ensure that the experience of our project managers, designers and site supervisors is passed on within the entire design team. At regular intervals, we also institute controls in the design process, which enables us to test the completed work against pre-defined quality criteria.

Every development is recorded, motivated and discussed in the work and site reports. As every development can continuously be checked against a concrete programme, the principal and the team can control the quality of the design at all times.
The direct involvement of every participant is essential to boost quality. This can only be guaranteed when there is a flexible and open structure, allowing for a fast response. The involvement of the employees is crucial in order to ensure that the communication lines within the design team are very short. This philosophy helps us to realize top-notch projects with a relatively small team. Moreover, one of the partners is always very closely involved in each project, in order to guarantee the continuity of the follow-up.

The budget is an essential part of each schedule of requirements and it is followed up in the same manner as every other aspect. Because the budget is an essential component of a project and because of the nature of the information, we can generally use similar methods for most projects. Within the firm, we have established a number of fixed procedures to do this.

Quality is also important with regard to the materials that were used. This is not only important for the performance and capacity of the materials but also for their durability in the light of energy, ecology and economic requirements. As a result, the communication with the principal and the end users is of primordial importance in the phase of the final design. It is in this phase that quality levels have to be laid down and that choices have to be made. If the quality level cannot be established with fixed parameters, it will probably be necessary to define every item by brand and type in order to describe the quality level in a targeted manner in the tender documents based on this decision-making process.

internal procedures

In order to streamline the internal organisation, we use a workbook with procedures according to the ISO 9001 standard. However, we realise that procedures can obstruct the creative process. That is why we have set standards for the general and support services, or exceptionally for the project-related aspect of our activities. It is one of the preliminary conditions for being able to work flexibly with the various organizations with which we are confronted. It is also why we are not considering any certification.

Every procedure describes the following aspects of the process
1. The procedure’s goals
2. Personalia (Author, employees, controller and final responsibility)
3. Tools used
4. Terminology
5. Procedures
6. Interactions
7. Allowed exceptions
8. Control
9. Feedback
10. Notes, remarks
11. List of adaptations
